In my dream world, I’d be sitting in my newly renovated (and ultra chic) rowhouse sipping a nice Pinot Noir watching Louie or The People’s Couch…if you aren’t watching these TV shows, you should start NOW.
Instead, my current reality consists of living stuffed to the brim in my childhood bedroom while my parents’ cat runs around like it’s possessed.
Because of work, family commitments and necessary tasks like laundry and food shopping, we have not been able to work on the house for the last four days.
This means we are no closer to moving in than we were last week. I cannot fully express to you how INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING that is. Because I’m not an heiress and Mark hasn’t won the lottery, we both still work full-time while trying to renovate full-time.
Let me tell you…it’s very difficult. It also doesn’t help that we have a beach vacation planned this weekend. We drew straws…guess who’s staying behind and working on the house??? (Not me.)

Aww, don’t get frustrated guys!
Renovating is a long process — especially considering neither of you are working on the house full-time. You’ll run the gamut of emotions from anger and frustration to pure joy and happiness. Remember, all good things to those who wait.
When Michelangelo was working on the Sistine Chapel, Pope Julius constantly pestered him to finish. “When will you make an end?” he asked the painter on a near daily basis for four straight years. Michelangelo’s response every single time was, “When I have done.”
Point is: Stay strong guys. You’ll finish when you finish and when it’s time. Everything happens for a reason.
I’ll bet Mark is thinking bummer. He certainly has his work cut out but I’m sure when your finished it will all be worth it.
So Courtney – a little unsolicited advice from your friend from the north (Jefferson County). I’m a preacher; advice is an occupational hazard! You should BOTH go to the beach. Take a break. Enjoy each other. The house will still be there when you get back. I suspect your mom would let you stay an extra month! 🙂
