Blog readers who’ve been with us for awhile know that we picked up an old elevator door from a saw mill that used to be on 60th Street in Lawrenceville.
We got it from a local artist who was selling it on Craigslist for $25.
Mark brought it home…I said “What the hell is that?!”…and Mark proudly informed me that we were hanging it from our ceiling.
It was an unfinished project for many months. Then, we bit the bullet and made it into the light fixture Mark had envisioned.
We bought LED light tape to put around the edges.
A connector was important since the one 12 foot spool didn’t go all the way around.
Also important…a dimmer.
We’re going for a sexy, halo glow in our living room…we don’t want it to look like a doctor’s office.
It took several tries before we properly patched the first string of light tape and the connector.
Then came the hard part. I had to hold up three sides of the (VERY HEAVY) door while Mark screwed it back onto the brackets.
This lasted about 20 minutes…Mark would yell speak to me and I would yell tell him that I was TRYING MY BEST!
We finally got it up. Pretty spectacular, huh?! 🙂

Thanks Bernie!!
Looks great . Flex strip LED lighting is awesome. I used it under my kitchen cabinets and rarely use the main lighting.
You’re absolutely right! Now that we’ve used it, I want to put it in other rooms…the kitchen cabinets idea is awesome.
elementalled.com is where I bought mine. They have mounting tracks and covers as well as wall switches and other accessories.
Awesome…thanks!
Wow, what a creative idea. It looks great and can’t wait to see how you two renovate the other house. Keep up the good work, you two are the best!!
Thanks Carol! We can’t wait to get to work on the next one, too! 🙂
Very ingenious. My wife would have had me hang it lower and use it as a clothes rack. Much better your way…Cool.
Hahahaha…a clothes rack…you just gave me a great idea. Should have thought of that before! 🙂
WOW!! Pretty spectacular is an understatement. WOW!
And you’ve seen it in person, too!
Love it!!! Your home looks beautiful!!
Thanks Sue!!
