We passed inspection!!!

Hallejuah, praise the Lord! Mark and I have been waiting for this day! The city inspector came and signed off on all the electrical work. That means we can start putting drywall EVERYWHERE. We started with insulation first. Mark is using Safe’n’Sound for the bathroom. It’s fire resistant and sound proof. We don’t want everyone hearing our bathroom/shower business and this insulation will absorb all that. When you come over, the only thing you will…

The female Russell Crowe

My husband and I have a problem. Every time we rent a dumpster, instead of just throwing away all the construction garbage we have…we start blowing out walls. The mood struck again and we decided to take off the door leading into the kitchen and blow out the wall next to it. The door is pretty cool and we are saving it for an art piece that I’ll tell you about later. 🙂 We got…

Worst weekend ever

The only thing I worked on this weekend was trying not to lose my cookies and keep my head from exploding. On Friday, I woke up with a stomach ache that I thought might be food poisoning. That ache turned into full-blown sweats, chills, fever and all the other nasty stuff that comes with the flu. Since I couldn’t function like a human, Mark had to work on the house by himself. He saw this…

One of a kind

I swear my husband, Mark, has the golden touch when it comes to this home renovation stuff. Not only is he re-doing the entire house from the studs up…but he’s finding the COOLEST stuff to put in it. Case in point —> Mark picked up this old elevator door that used to be in a saw mill near 60th Street in Lawrenceville. A local artist who takes “throwaway pieces” and refurbishes them couldn’t figure out…

Then and now…

I thought we’d do a “before and after” now that we’re at the midway point. It’s cool to see the progress and, honestly, it gives my husband and me the little boost we need to keep going! This was a shot of the downstairs from the front door the way the previous owner had it… And here’s what we’ve done so far. A picture of the downstairs from the kitchen looking to the front door……

Breaking news!!

We need to break into programming for this one… Mark built a pocket door!!! It’s for our bathroom…since we don’t have a lot of space, we thought this would be a great option. He got a “pocket door kit” and framed in it. Then we took an old door that was in the house and shaved down the sides so it would fit. The bathroom is almost finished and so is the neighboring room that…

Marriage isn't what I thought it was going to be

Today is my 2-year wedding anniversary which means I have accumulated LOTS of wisdom that I’m now allowed to disperse to others. 🙂 I had no idea when I walked down the aisle that I was not marrying Mark, but a superhuman who is the epitome of Bob Vila, Ty Pennington and Scott McGillivray all in one person. When we tied the knot, I figured we’d have a nice house in the suburbs with a…

Hammer Time

All we needed was some MC Hammer pants to go with this bad boy. We rented a jackhammer from Home Depot to bust open the concrete and dirt in our basement. We had to open the floor so the plumber can tie our new lines into the existing pipe. Mark picked up some ear plugs because he jack hammered the night before without them and was slightly hard of hearing the next day. We plugged…

St. Mark

While I was at the Jersey Shore tanning, swimming and eating my way to the next pants size up, my saint of a husband was hard at work on our house. Let’s be clear…Mark WANTED to stay behind and work on the house, I didn’t ask/tell/make him. The word “can’t” is NOT in this man’s vocabulary. He rented himself a lift and started putting drywall on our ceiling. If you know anything about drywall, it’s…
