Blogging is just so hard.

Hahahahahahaha. No it’s not. 🙂 Here’s my hubby taking apart the window frame in our back bedroom. He then steps out onto the roof (in a very masculine way) and tosses the old wood down below. It’s dirty and sweaty and grimy work. You could say it’s hardened him. And then there’s me. Sitting in the AC, blogging and drinking some wine. But no wine for the photo…don’t wanna rub it in his face. 🙂…

Screw it…we should just be roofers.

Mark and I have been on this roof so many times, I feel like we should just start a roofing company. We’ve put down new tar. We’ve put in laundry vents. We’ve admired the view. I’m not a fan of this kind of work. It’s really hot on the roof, and there’s not an SPF in this world high enough that keeps those rays off my pasty white skin. We most recently took down the…

We Love To Cancel Our Vacations

For the second time, Mark and I are cancelling our beach vacation to work on the house. This happened last September. That was when we were still living with my parents (best time of our lives) and we were THIS CLOSE to getting the house to a point where we could move in. Fast forward 365 days and we are in a similar position. We (again) are THIS CLOSE to FINISHING all the major rooms…

Ya Can't Catch A Bus On The Roof

I walked in from teaching spin this weekend and before I even locked the car door, I could hear it. POUNDING. Oh Lord in heaven, I know what that means! That noise means 2 things…my husband is working on the roof and he’s still alive. (Bonus!) Mark and I decided to down take the chimney (that doesn’t work) because we wanted to salvage the old bus sign that covered it up. The bricks fell pretty…

Bucket Brigade

I literally spent several hours filling a bucket with rocks, walking it 12 feet and then dumping it. God bless all the people that have to do this for a living because it totally sucks. Our basement purge continued as we shoveled out all the broken concrete that we smashed to pieces with the jackhammer when we put our sewer line in last year. Mark would shovel it out the coal shoot. I would load…

Grunt Work

Our latest project was a cleanup. A purge of all the leftover construction materials and junk we’ve been putting in our basement. We knew it was going to be a lot of grunt work and we finally bit the bullet and rented a truck. Our basement coal shoot came in handy. We used the ol’ assembly line technique. Mark would pass the wood out. I would throw it in the truck. Some pieces were big…

Dirt, dirt…and more dirt

One of the joys of living in a renovation is the amount of dirt and dust that seem to cover EVERYTHING at ALL times. When Mark did all the dirty work on the firewall attic, you know we tracked that S*&$ through the house no matter how hard we tried not to. We are in a constant state of “Swiffering” and vacuuming. We also change our air filters fairly often. I hate to gross you…

Swearin' up a storm

5/8ths drywall is heavy. Like, REALLY heavy. I know this because Mark complained when I asked him to hold it up for this picture. Note to self…when Mark complains, pretend you don’t hear him…or give him a Snickers bar, either works. 🙂 Our attic firewall is shaped to the pitch of the roof. It’s not nice and square, so we had to cut the drywall in different shapes to make it fit. Before screwing it…

Vodka Sodas > Firewall Construction

Vodka sodas with a splash of cranberry juice are the best. And drinking them in your backyard is wayyyyyy better than building a firewall. (Trust us.) This weekend did not go as planned. Mark had a big work deadline and was at the office all day Saturday and most of the day on Sunday. Y’all know I’m not building that firewall by myself. So, I busied myself with these Sweaty Bettys. My spin studio, Steel…

Looking ahead…

Mark and I are on a very tight schedule to FINISH our house. Like, really REALLY finish it. On the agenda this weekend…complete the firewall in our attic. We estimate this will take one weekend. (But it kinda depends on how many beers we have and how many naps we take.) After that, we will tackle the gross monstrosity that is our back bedroom. Whoa. Nelly. It’s the one part of our house that we…
