It's a good thing I don't cook

Mark did not marry me for my kitchen skills. In the six years we’ve known each other, I think I’ve only ever made him eggs. But they were delicious. Even though I don’t cook, I sure as heck know that a crockpot should not be filled with metal things. These are the super cool (and super old) hinges and door bell that were on the front door. Mark saw on YouTube that you put them…

We Must Carry On

Our DIY home improvements slowed this week because work has been really busy and then I got sick. Yuck. Before the HeBeGeeBees, I left Mark like this… Once the HeBeGeeBees were gone, I walked downstairs and I saw this. We have walls. A bunch of them. No more “insulation chic” in our house. Mark and I were talking about how slow we seem to be going now. I don’t know if we don’t have any…

My grandmother told me I needed another MAN

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know that my husband is a MASTER home renovator…except when it comes to door frames. The first time Mark built a door frame for our bedroom, he ended up throwing things and cursing the sky and I had to get out of there because it was ridiculous. (Relive that episode HERE) You would think it would be different this time when Mark tried to build the…

This is how cave people lived.

We couldn’t leave our house for several days because we didn’t have a front door. Seriously. One of us had to be at home at all times. Our current front door and door frame were kind of rotted and not in the best shape. We took the door down and stripped it to its natural wood. Then, we used a dowel to fill in the holes left behind by the original handle and lock. After…

I'm on TV…but not this kind of TV.

When you watch a lot of TV and you’re on TV, the placement of the television is very important. We have to decide this now before Mark closes up the wall. And so, we made a cardboard TV. I know, I know…our skills are astounding. Our TV will be on a “swing arm” that attaches to the wall, so we need to put the right support beams in place. This is another moment where I…

It…won't…fit…

There’s a reason why contractors and roofers and electricians have trucks. You can fit A LOT of stuff in a truck. Not so much with a Volvo… No matter how much Mark pushed and pulled… That insulation did not want to fit! You’d think because it’s soft and squishy, you could smash it into any small space. After several attempts (and several weird looks from people walking by) we got the insulation in the car…

Forever GRATEFUL!

Here’s the challenge…how do we even come close to repaying the HUGE KINDNESS my parents showed us?! For six months, we lived, slept and ate all of their food…FOR FREE! And they never got mad that our stuff was EVERYWHERE! My mom and dad also helped us tear down the old walls in our house…they cleaned and painted…and brought us lunch when we forgot it. To thank them, we took them to dinner and toasted…

No more falling through the floor!

I was getting pretty good at jumping through our first floor in a hopscotch like manner to avoid all the holes. It was a great exercise for my quads. But those days are gone. Now we’re like regular people with a regular floor that’s nice and smooth and in one piece. What is DIFFERENT is the CHARACTER of the wood. It’s a throwback…an homage if you will…to the original wood that we found all throughout…

Those little clues…

Since half of our house is a “home” and the other half is a construction site, there are little clues everywhere indicating the craziness we’re living in. Our kitchen sink is filled with dishes AND paintbrushes. When we’re upstairs, we have to put our shoes on to walk downstairs. We can only eat food that comes pre-packaged or that’s microwavable because our kitchen isn’t really ready to have food cooked in it. When friends come…

Fall Fridays

The recipe for a great day is simple. A long run through our beautiful city… An afternoon stroll through the neighborhood with my best guy… Late afternoon drinks… While binge watching “The Good Wife.” To top it all off, we settled in to a long and sweet dinner at Tamari. It’s the little things that make life great! **FOLLOW ILOVE2SWEAT! Just click the “+ Follow” button at the top of the page & put in…
