Only 1 thing to do when you're snowed in…work on your house!

This weekend was spent keeping people up to date on the snow storm for my real job and drinking hot tea with honey and bourbon..the best! Mark and I also used #SnowStormJonas as the perfect excuse to stay in and work on our house! (Ya’ll knew we were gonna work on it any way.) First…sustenance. Yes, I cooked. (Shocking!) I made Mark a three egg omelet with meat and cheese, then promptly announced that I…

Do not lick the orange foam!

Not that I thought anyone would…I just wanted to go on the record saying that. Even though we insulated the hell out of The Rowhouse…and most rooms are toasty warm…we still feel a few drafts. We did a very scientific test (ha!) and found that our back bedroom is about five degrees cooler than the rest of the house. This means we can only have people sleep over who are warm-blooded or who are willing…

Courtney's Favorite Things

It’s kind of like “Oprah’s Favorite Things” except I don’t have a billion dollars and no one cares what I think. 1 – Saturday morning coffee…when it’s brewed with cinnamon and when Mark gets out of bed first and makes it. 2 – Our back room completely dry walled. (Woot woot!) 3 – When I make lunch for Mark and he actually eats something other than orange Pringles. (Still can’t replace his beer.) 4 –…

That warm and fuzzy feeling…

One of my favorite things to see is drywall going up. It makes a dirty and exposed construction space feel like an actual room. When the ceiling and walls start to appear, I can actually feel a weight being lifted off of me. Those walls tell me that everything is going to be fine. Even though Mark has proven that he is capable of renovating an ENTIRE house and WE are capable of doing this…I…

My husband isn't nuts

Well, maybe just a little bit. But Mark’s weird (and often maddening) habit of saving EVERY. SINGLE. RECEIPT. finally paid off the other day. We needed to order 3 window blinds for the back bedroom and couldn’t remember the exact make and model we got before. I said “Why don’t you see if you can find the receipt?” Receipt-loving Mark did just that. While we’re on the subject of “maddening qualities our spouse has” I…

Mark the Mason

Mark can basically do anything a general contractor can do. And in the spirit of the new year and JUST GOING FOR IT, it turns out he is quite the mason as well. That’s the old wooden sill on one of the windows in the back bedroom. It has to be the original because it was rotted and gross. Mark removed it along with some of the crumbly bricks underneath. Time to rebuild the windowsill….

A New Year's Post by Your Favorite Home Renovator

Hello and Happy New Year to all of you fabulous readers…all you blog lovahs! I’m handing the keyboard over to my favorite guy, Mr. Marky Mark…we decided that he would write the first post of 2016! Hey everyone…I’m not a wordsmith like Courtney, but I have a few things to share. To start, Courtney and I never envisioned that we’d be here…in this cool little house with blog readers and followers and a second house…

Our version of a disco ball

Blog readers who’ve been with us for awhile know that we picked up an old elevator door from a saw mill that used to be on 60th Street in Lawrenceville. We got it from a local artist who was selling it on Craigslist for $25. Mark brought it home…I said “What the hell is that?!”…and Mark proudly informed me that we were hanging it from our ceiling. It was an unfinished project for many months….

Family knows you best!

Our family doesn’t even wrap Christmas presents for us anymore, they just hand us Home Depot gift cards. And we love them for it!!! This Christmas was the best yet because of this sweetie pie and her big cheeks. All we did this Christmas was spoil niece Lily and eat. Then give her kisses and eat some more. And then have pie. Yours truly needs to detox and sweat off some of those goodies. What…

Excuse me while I cry…

Not sure if it’s the holidays or my hormones, but I literally teared up the other day as Mark worked on our upstairs bedroom. As I wrote this blog post, he carried all the insulation and drywall upstairs. He cut the fluffy pink stuff and filled all the cracks and crannies Then, Marky Mark rented himself a lift and started hanging…but not before I made him pose. Drywall is heavy and cumbersome, and this skinny…
